Help! Abnormal pap
« on: October 22, 2018, 09:43:00 PM »
So, I got a call from the dr today I had an abnormal pap.  I’m 41.  Should I be worried? I’m a healthy person active work out.  He wants to do a cervical biopsy to make sure he didn’t miss anything.  Should I have it in office with topical numbing or be put to sleep?  I’m not sure how badly it will hurt.
Any positive encouragement is welcome!
Thank you

Abnormal Pap smears are common so don’t panic yet!
I’m not sure how much it will hurt but I’m a bit of a wuss so I always opt to be put to sleep. (D&C, wisdom teeth)

2 years ago I had an irregular pap while pregnant for my daughter. My Dr dos another PAP to retest just in case. It came back irregular again. So they did s screening to see it was cervical cancer which was another pap. That came back negative so my dr wanted to do a biopsy just in case. I was very scared to get it done. Honestly I worked myself up over it for nothing. It was a bit painful. No worse then a mild contraction. I was not given any numbing agent. The procedure was fairly quick. For me I had pretty bad cramping after wards for a few days. When I got the results back it was just a low grade of cells and nothing to be alarmed. I just have to go back in April for a PAP. Sorry this is so long. But I hope it helps. Feel free to message me if you want. Good luck!
