everywhere is going to hurt.. I have one around my ankle and am planning to get one on my wrist, ribs and back of my neck. there's not a lot u can do about the pain some places offer numbing cream I found listening to music helps. apparently meaty parts of you body hurt the least, going over bone is very painful and any sensitive parts of your body!

The wrist doesn't hurt that bad but it's  in an open place. No hiding it

I have 6 and I think they are addicting. I have one on my wrist (can be covered by a watch) one on my hip, lower back, shoulder blade, ankle, and top of the foot. Right on the bone did hurt the most. Make sure your tattoo will be something that will mean something to you for life. The only way to remove it is by laser and it takes many sessions.

My wrist is a moon and a star it means reach for the stars and never give up.
My hip:handcuffs because I am a military police officer
Lower back:stationed in Japan so I got a beautiful Japanese flower
Shoulder: sons foot print with birthday and name
Ankle: two halves of a heart one purple and one pink. My best friends favourite color is purple and mine is punk. We are so different but we somehow come together as one.
And the top of my foot: Japanese symbol for friendship. Sister in law and I have it because we get along just like sisters. We are double trouble when we are together.

you have to be 18 here in aus to get one... i have 4, two at the bottom of my back which now look like one, its says Gemini for my star sign and now has a row of stars, a big rose on the side of my right leg below the knee with my anniversary date through it and one on the top of my left foot that says "own the day" - which is pretty much explains itself - i wouldnt say any of mine hurt as such, they are are little tender whilst getting them, some places gave more of a twinge but i guess its up to the individual person - i know alot of people that swear never to get the foot again, however im planning my 5th on the right foot..

I think piercings hurt more than tattoos but if you get a large tattoo that's when it can get irritating and actually requires a lot of stamina to get through it. I got a small star about the size of a tea light candle, on my shoulder blade. It hurt way less than I was expecting from what ppl had told me & to describe the feeling it was like drawing on your skin with a ballpoint pen  over and over on the same spot. I have a fear of needles too but seem to be fine when it's piercings or tattooing. If you get a symbol then I suggest seeing a highly skilled artist that can do thin detailed line so the end result is a feminine & fine detail. Look at existing work on the skin not just the pictures in the store.

Yes anagram tilt the laser hurts worse than getting a tattoo. I heard that one tattooed celebrity took her teen kids with her while having one removed via laser so she could show them the type of pain they'd have to go through if they ever got one done & made a mistake.

For my 18th birthday 14/2 I got my late grandmothers name on my right foot and oh my I thought I would never get another one again.
2 months latter I ended up getting my grandfathers name on my left foot.
On your feet hurts the most as its all bone. It felt lil my foot was gonna drop off!
At the end of the day u should always get a tattoo that means something because so many people get tattoos theses days that are point less. Good luck :))

I'm nearly 21 and have not got any iv always said I would wait until I no what I want as I do not want to regret it later in life I also said I would never have a lads name on me but I'm not sure now iv been in a relationship for almost a year and love my man to bits a week after my birthday it is our 1st anaversity and I'm thinking of getting a tattoo do u think I should have his name or would u strongly advise me not to I need help Before u make up ur minds I was in a 4 year relationship previous to this and i knew 100% I would never of got his name tattooed on me but I'm so in love now it's unreal and feel I could spend the rest of my life with him like iv found my mr right plz help

Don't do it! A tattoo is permanent! Even though you love him this much now it's only been a year. There's no telling what might happen in the future. I would never get a partner's name tattooed on me! Maybe wait and see if you still want the tattoo on your 10 year wedding anniversary.

I agree wait to get his name tattoo on you. Like she said after you get marry maybe for a 10 year wedding anniversary. I hope it doesn't happen but what if you guys don't last. You would always have his name on you. So just really think about it.

Well I have two tattoos. The one on my lower back hurt really bad. The one on my shoulder didn't really hurt that much at all. But before you get the tattoo really think about it. You don't want to get one and they a few years from now wish you didn't get it.

I got my first tattoo wrapped around the side of my hip and my second across the top of my foot. Personally, my side hurt worse and my foot didn't hurt at all.
The best way to describe the pain is to imagine you have a sunburn and someone is taking a bristle brush and dry scrubbing it.

Don't take anything beforehand for the pain. Any kind of pain reliever will thin your blood and you'll bleed A LOT more than you'd like to.

It's all just a mind over matter issue. You'll end up psyching yourself out more than you need to. Just control your breathing and depending on where you get it, have someone to talk to.

You've got this :)

Hey there I have the whole top of my foot covered with roses vines and a script that says papa it didn't hurt on the bone but it hurt a little on the side of my foot, I also have my chest covered with my daughters hand and feet prints and her full name the chest hurt a lot. I have my right shoulder blade it's a keltic sister symbol my sister and I got that cause we are Irish, and I have faith on the back of my neck. The pain really depends on how well you can handle a needle, my sister and I can get tattoos and not feel any pain, unless it's in a certain spot it may hurt.

I have 6 tattoos; one on each foot, my inner wrist, shoulder blade, shoulder & chest (just above my heart).

Any spot that doesn't have some muscle is going to hurt (ribs, feet, ankles). Also, spots that aren't normally exposed can hurt (undersides of the upper arm, lower back).

However, in my experience, once you get a tattoo, you will get more!! :-)

Someone also mentioned that piercings hurt more than tattoos...I have to disagree. Piercings are done in a few seconds do you don't even feel anything.

I said that to describe the type of pain. A piercing is a quick pain & tattoo is a long niggling, annoying pain. If you're having large amounts of work done then you need the stamina to persist because the pain is constant.

The only point I was trying to make was that piercings DON'T hurt. Not in my experiences anyway.

I have 5 tattoos. Tattoos are permanent.  Yes you can get them surgically removed but that is EXPENSIVE and PAINFUL. My advice.

1) do not get a tattoo of something you wouldn't want to look at FOREVER.
2) NEVER get someone's name unless its family. It's bad luck AND forever with someone is never garunteed.
3) do not get anything explicit somewhere you can't cover up.

Good luck!!

I have four tattoos, I've got one on my ankle which is the transformers symbol that didn't hurt, I've got one on each of my hip/belt line which are two butterflies they hurt and I have a massive butterfly tattoo on the top half on my back and man did that hurt. The one on my ankle is a cover up of a design my ex boyfriend drew, the butterflies on my hips/belt line are my brother and sister and the butterfly on my back represents my misscarages

I have 8 tattoos, and I have to say my foot tattoo hurt the most. When the artist goes back over the tattoo, that's when it hurts. You can't do anything before or during for pain. They will tell you to sit still so they won't mess up and the artist will give you specific instructions for care after the tattoo. I got a small dragonfly for my first tattoo at the age of 16, but my mind was elsewhere. I have had two artists compliment me on how I sit there and take the pain of a tattoo.

When you get a tattoo, no spot hurts the least. Ask your artist for his/her opinion on a location (I had to change designs last minute last month and my artist drew a rose for me and picked out the colors too.) Choose something feminine and small that'll be easy to hide.

I only say that because I have an uncle who hates my tattoos and I have had three in the past month and I'm going back on March 4 for a new one (shooting stars) because I saw a shooting star. I can hide all of my tattoos except for 4.

I am 19 going on 20. And I got my first tattoo last Halloween (2012).  I got it on my shoulder, I did not feel any pain I felt the pressure but nothing that was serious. Then as of April 2nd of this year I got another on the top of my right foot. That on the other hand was horrific. I only yelled once and that was to call the tattoo artist a sadistic b@$t@rd. the foot hurt so badly I drew blood on my husbands had that I was holding. I also have a lip ring which I've done twice before on my own and piercing  do not hurt at all. The only piercing I had that bothered me was the cartilage on the top of my ears n that was just a sore pain.

You have to be 18 in Australia to be able to get a professional tattoo. Tattoo artists will be fined and so can you for not being the legal age. The only way you could get one would be a home job which obviously is stupid! It doesn't even matter if you had parental confirmation, I tried messaging and talking to tattoo parlors and they won't risk their job for a 16 year old.. Trust me you're better off waiting until you're 18 to know whether you want it because it's a life long decision!

I got an anchor tattooed on my wrist, and it didn't hurt at all. It tingled, like pins and needles (no pun intended).

My advice would be to wait until you're 18. You've got some time to plan a serious work of art. You could shop around and ask artists to draw you up a few things, depending on what you want. Ask a sister or a best friend if it's a good idea. A tattoo is there for life; you don't want to be 80, married, with another guys name written on your body. I would honestly advise to get something small first.

I too am terrified of needles but ul be surprised u may be ticklish. Mine are ticklish. Only my ribs felt like an annoyong scratch in the same place. Dont drink alcohol ul bleed more. Tattoo artists dont like it when u bleed to much. Have a decent meal before and buy urself a chocolate and coke as ur body will be shaky from your adrenalin. The sugar will help u with that. Take good aftercare of it. It will feel like sunburn. Wash it lightly with ur fingers only, warm water and either an aques bases soap bar or disinfectant soap. Pat it lightly to dry and put nappy rash cream on 3 x a day this will act as a scab and prevent it from scabbing resulting u to have touch ups as scabs pull off the ink. Repeat this for a week until the skin has washed off. Your colors will remain bright and beautiful. I have had my back my hips my foot and my ribs done. Once u start you wont stop. Good luck :)

Make sure you are 100% sure you want one first, the tattoos I thought I wanted when I was younger I have now realised I don't anymore. I have 4 so far and they are pieces that I've ALWAYS wanted, things that mean a lot to me. You don't always have to have one with meaning but you have to be completely sure it's what you want, and good tattoo artists aren't happy when you go to the shop and don't know the type of design or where on your body you want it. There's no harm in waiting, because if you don't like it you have to wait a long time to either get it covered by another tattoo or fork out LOADS of money to have it removed and it's really not worth having one you won't like in a few years.

I plan on getting a tattoo on my middle finger on my left hand of the Gemini sign because I'm a gemini. Then an angel at the back of my back so that I always have a guardian angle. Someone to watch over me when my mom can't. And then on my fingers, the digits closest to my finger nails, I'm going to get bookworm written on it because of my vast love of music. Also, one behind my ear of a music note because of my never ending love for music. It's always been apart of my life. And I plan on being in the Air Force after college, so after college, I'll get a tattoo that has something to do with that. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/95/e0/39/95e03985fe40cb344ddcaf019d173c2c.jpg

All mine have sybolic meshing, every one of them has to do with a family member, and I'll tell u, I have no pain tolerance at all, u flick me and I'll cry, they did not hurt, my 1st tattoo, I got when I was 16, I cried, the ones after that were fine! I say the least painful ones would be my calves though if I had to choose...good luck, and here in Canada u can get a tattoo/piercing at any age, as long as ur parent signs for it...trust me I know I had my tongue pierced at 11! Tattoos are going to hurt its needles going into your skin at a fast pace
What you can do to help with the pain
-bring water and some snacks anything sweet and contains sugar helps
-eat a big meal before
-make sure you drink lots
-I found when I was on my period it hurt more so maybe schedule before or after you're finished/start yours
-get a good nights sleep
-relax and breathe
You can ask to take breaks if it does hurt don't be afraid make sure you research the tattooist don't go to the cheapest place ask them questions that worry you when you make your appointment for a consultation (consultation is where they will plan the size and place of your tattoo and where you would put your deposit to keep your spot) also relaxing and talking to the tattooist or bringing a friend along or music helps also .
The tattoo placements out of my 15 tattoos that I found painful and not so bad but since everyone is different it may differ also make sure your design isn't too big but not too small

Painful : shoulder blade :for me was the most painful it hurt so much
Collar bone : if you get it near your neck it gets more stingy but it's not that bad
I have two tattoos along my elbow down to the side of my wrist the place closest to my elbow hurt more but it wasn't bad enough
Ditch of elbow : I have one an inch below the bendy part of my arm that was pretty pinch-y and stingy
My favourite placements were my shin , middle of my spine and arms.
Shin : I barely felt it when he was colouring in the Rose leaves and chains certain spots did made me feel it more but it wasn't that bad when he filled in the key hole that was probably the most painful of the whole shin tattoo and when I say painful it was like pinch-y
Wrist : I have three on the wrist I have one on the side facing up and it was my first and it wasn't that bad I held my breath a few times (don't recommend doing that ) but when I relaxed and stopped over reacting it went better than I thought the other one is on the opposite on my wrist and it was fine It went smoothly
Middle of my spine : this placement was my favourite it felt good so good it felt like a massage chair
Good luck with your first tattoo :)

I have 4 tattoos. One ; on my right wrist. Tribal crow on my left ankle, line crow on my left inner forearm and a unicorn with a Celtic knot crescent moon on my right upper arm. If you are thinking of getting a tattoo, think about the image you want. If you still want it a year later, go for it.

Laser is worse than getting the tattoo and if its a very dark tattoo, youll need multiple sessions just to lighten it up, although it wont be very noticeable, the tatto is still there because of how dark it is and because tatts are permanent inked scars in your skin

I have 4! one on my wrist, one on my shoulder blade, one on my forearm and one one my hip bone. RIGHT ON THE HIP BONE (pelvis area). Out of all of mine I would say the pelvis one hurt the worst as you can imagine it being right over the bone and the one that hurt the least would be my wrist! Any place will hurt of you can't tolerate pain I can to a point just can't stand needles but having said that once you get one, you'll have 5 then you'll have 10 lol I already planned out 8 more that I want haha they really are addicting! If you can't see yourself with more than a few tattoos I wouldn't get one. Cause you'll keep wanting and wanting lol GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY! also a tip I would start with a small piece first then work to a big piece to tolerate your pain since it'll be your first tattoo!

you have to be 18 here in aus to get one... i have 4, two at the bottom of my back which now look like one, its says Gemini for my star sign and now has a row of stars, a big rose on the side of my right leg below the knee with my anniversary date through it and one on the top of my left foot that says "own the day" - which is pretty much explains itself - i wouldnt say any of mine hurt as such, they are are little tender whilst getting them, some places gave more of a twinge but i guess its up to the individual person - i know alot of people that swear never to get the foot again, however im planning my 5th on the right foot..

16 with parental permission, otherwise 18 for Australia

I’ve only got one on my wrist but it didn’t hurt too much. Then again, I’m not scared of needles.

Pain thresholds are different for everyone, but you can pretty much say that anywhere boney or with many nerves will sting quite a bit! Like the spine!! Anywhere with a little extra “padding” won’t hurt as much.  ;)

It also depends on the size of your tattoo. If it’s complex, you’re going to be sitting or laying on the table for quite some time, or may have to revisit if it takes many hours.

Not sure what’s best for you? Get a consultation with the parlor or artist you’re thinking of.  ^-^

All I’ve heard is that they hurt like crap. My mom said she got one when the was in college and she thought she was so cool until she actually had it done. So it really isn’t the best idea to get one. Stick to the little temporary ones we had when we were kids that we always got as party favors. Good luck
